Akumal, Mexico : Akumal, Mexico is situated on the Yucatan Peninsula about an hour's ride south of Cancun. We had the pleasure of visiting there in March 2006 and staying at an all-inclusive resort named Bahia Principe Akumal.

The resort was much larger than we had imagined and much more luxurious as well! The resort consisted of 3 all-inclusive hotels: Bahia Principe Akumal, Bahia Principe Tulum, and Bahia Principe Coba. You could easily travel between the different hotels using a shuttle. This place was a city unto itself!

Our room at Bahia Principe Akumal was right on the beach! Our sliding glass door overlooked the water and palm trees. The beach itself was most picturesque but there was really only one area where it was safe to swim.

During our stay we took side trips to the Mayan ruins at Tulum and to Xel Ha, an eco-park.

But alas, it was all over too quick!

The Old South : My husband and I had the pleasure of taking a road trip to the southeastern United States to visit different historical and scenic sites in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and West Virginia. Among the places we visited included Charleston, Harpers Ferry, Lynchburg, and Shepherdstown. Driving along a road in North Carolina we accidentally stumbled upon a place called Bentonville which is where the largest Civil War Battle in the state of North Carolina took place.

This was a long drive from where we live in Pennsylvania and what amazed us both was how soldiers from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars made their way across this countryside on foot or horseback across this terrain in all different types of weather. Each state that we visited was affected by one or both of those conflicts. You can't escape that while driving passing through them.

We ended our trip with a stop at Gettysburg. I have just three photos from our stop there but if you're a Civil War buff and would like to see more Civil War related photos, I have albums here devoted to Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, and Antietam and you're welcome to visit them as well!

St. Thomas 2003 - The Godfrey Tour : In July 2003 my husband and I spent one gorgeous week in St. Thomas. I had been there two other times on cruises but this was his first time there. Since it was his first time, I thought it would be nice to do an island tour our first day there. After doing a little research we settled on a tour by Godfrey Renal, a local guide. These photos are from the tour we took with Godfrey.

This tour is also open to cruise ship passengers and Godfrey has it perfectly timed for them. As a matter of fact, most of the folks on our tour were from a cruise ship. They lived just outside of Philadelphia! We live about an hour from there. Talk about a small world!

A Day at Mount Vernon : On September 20 we got up at "o-dark-thirty" (OK, 4:00 AM ) to take a day trip given by the Friends of Valley Forge Park to Mount Vernon, VA. To those of you not familiar with American History, Mount Vernon was the home of George Washington, our first president.

We made an hour long trip to Valley Forge National Park from New Hope, PA where we boarded a bus at 6:00 AM to begin our 3.5 hour drive to Mount Vernon. It was a long day for sure!
